Healthy Chocolate Comes to the Cereal Category
Watch out for the latest healthy ingredient in the cereal aisle: Chocolate.
That came after a 2005 report by the American Heart Assn. claiming that a serving of dark chocolate every day might lower blood pressure and improve insulin resistance. Critics contend the study didn't establish a link between eating chocolate and preventing heart disease or cancer.
Quaker Oats and Kellogg are hoping chocolate's improved image will entice more people to try its healthy-positioned Life and Special K lines, respectively. Neither product will tout the purported anti-oxidant properties of chocolate.
